I too am just starting out. Was told the FG-700 was a great guitar for beginners and I agree. Love mine, easy to play, but I also just recently bought a Washburn WG21s and love the mellow sound from the cedar top. From my beginning observation - the FS-700 is great for chords and the Washburn better for picking as far as the sound goes. Just my opinion.
