I was mainly referring to the crunchy rythm however also for soloing. The absence of midrange is the easiest way to get that medal sound. I would try it out and see for yourself. I would also use reverb not too heavy though. More than anything get a good distortion box. Check out http://www.harmonycentral.com for help choosing one.
