Just about every jam track is in 4/4. 4 beats per measure.

The snare drum is almost always on 2 and 4, the bass is almost always on 1.

The "almost" is what makes music interesting :)


So if you consider the first bass drum you hear beat 1, and the first snare drum you hear beat 2, you can count to 4 from there and repeat.
