I thought that was great, thanks for posting! You have a knack for finding good YouTube videos! Hey, in that Satriani video, he mentions Phrygian dominant several times... you should check out that scale... can go great with just a minor pentatonic scale depending on the backing track. You don't have to learn the whole scale all over the fretboard right away... you can just experiment in one position, or just along one string... the G string works really well for the key of D. Phrygian Dominant (I've seen it called "altered", "major" and some other names) has an augmented interval (a whole step, plus another half step) which gives it a really distinctive sound.... fun to play around with! Give it a try just for fun. Starting on any note, the sequence is:
