If you want to play metal, and if you want to play it for a long time then you should buy a Jackson, their sound is a bit thin (if you get what I'm saying) when you play wihtout distortion but it doesn't matter unless you want a very good clear sound.
But if you want to change your style or you know that metal is not all you want to play I suggest the Esp. (Actually I would suggest an Ibanez because their guitars are ver light to play and they have a great sound, but no Ibanez were list so... I'll leave my suggestion out :))
