GF2 starts with the basics of music theory. It can be very confusing, but it forms the basis of how we use the guitar to make sound that we can turn into music.
As I say at the end of the Intervals tutorial, for now, you only need to know two things:
1. We measure the distance between notes on the guitar in units called half-steps. And the distance from one fret to the next is a half-step. So, the further up the neck you play, the higher the pitch because the string rings for a shorter amount.
2. You can play the same note in more than one place on the guitar.
Regarding the C major scale, it forms the basis of every genre of Western music. Don't worry about the theory too much right now. Just go forward to the next tutorials in which I give you something to do with the scale! :)
We wanted to give you the conceptual basis for intervals & major scales first so that when you start using them, hopefully, you will have a better understanding of what they are & how we use them to make music on the guitar.
Hope that helps. Ask more if necessary. Have fun!
