my advice is to go into a music store and play everything you see. you may find something that'll surprise you. for example, i went in to guitar center to check out some les pauls, but i ended up falling in love with a Jackson RR-5. so go in, get a feel for everything, see how it feels when you hold it. nothing we tell you will affect what you think about it or how it plays through your hands. that's the most important factor to me. so go see how different ones play and sound. you may be surprised
To improve technique and of course trying to keep all as clean as possible. I know my own limits and speed limits and so on I never play anything I'm not capable of. That wouldn't make any sense. After three years of playing I tried to play everything as fast as possible and that sounded, I would say, like shit, and I didn't realize that if I'd play bit slower things than I was capable of playing then everything would sound much better.
