THis can actually be a good thing, because you may want to mute some strings with your left hand as you're playing.

Just focus on getting the correct hand position for beginner's chords and you will get the hang of it.

If not, I always recommend lessons for anyone who wants to learn more about their instrument and have a less steep learning curve
