- Hold your pick so that you can lightly touch the string with part of your thumb as your pick releases the string.
- Position your pick so that you will touch the string at exactly the right place for the harmonic you want to produce.
Try the mid-point between the bridge and the fret at first. This produces a note one octave higher than the fretted note. Positions closer to the bridge will produce higher pitched harmonics, but position on the string is even more critical, so start with the mid-point.
