George, a few suggestions that might help with not getting frustrated... first, don't wait to "get good enough" to make your own music... take time each day to just experiment using what you already know, and just have fun coming up with simple riffs or chord progressions, whatever. Just play around and see what you can make up on your own. There are many examples out there of songs with really simple guitar parts that use just a couple of notes on a couple of strings.

Secondly, I'd recommend anyone who's really wanting to get a lot out of their playing time to have some sort of beat box/drum machine. I have a BOSS DR-880, which has 500 preset patterns that include drums & bass, plus a great sounding built-in guitar effects unit. Its tons of fun to just put the headphones on, plug-in & jam. I use it every day. The DR-880 might be more than many are willing to spend (just under $500 but worth every penny in my opinion) but there are cheaper units out there that would probably be worth looking at. If you keep it fun, and get creative every day, you'll probably find you're pretty happy with your progress, even if it still seems a struggle at times (when does it not?)

Just so you know, I started playing when I was a kid, and I am now 40.... Coincidentally I have forgotten more than I learned.... Hence the reason I am back here on the site...

It's never too late to learn, or uh... re-learn as the case for me may be... :P
So. If you throw a cat out of a car window, is it considered "kitty litter"?
