I don't know if you can catch it, but on Palladium they have "Journey: Live in Manila". Early in the show Neal Schon does a stand-alone shred guitar solo, sort of the typical million notes-per-minute sort of thing, but at one point breaks into this beautiful solo where he uses just a few well-placed notes and a touch of whammy-bar. What he's also using is a Fernandez Sustainer system. Last I heard, his is a custom made sustainer, but a standard Fernandez sustainer will be equal to the task. The reason I mention Schon's solo is that its a particularly tasteful example of what you can do with a sustainer, but its also the likely culprit behind many of those "big hair" 80's solos with dive bombs and pinch harmonics that seem to sustain forever (in fact they do!). The Edge also uses a sustainer on the opening of "With or Without You". Steve Vai also uses one, so when you see him playing with his teeth or whatever, the sustainer is there, keeping the harmonics going. You'll have to have your beloved axes draw lots on which one gets to have its guts torn out and body chiseled to make room for the kit, or buy a Fernandes guitar with one already in it. Jackson also offers the "Sustainiac" but it doesn't have as many options as the Fernandes.
