Satriani uses the most common picks there is, just like VAI, they are so normal it's ridiculous (I own several picks by those two, that's why I know)
I have used lots of different picks over the years, from heavy, light, stubby, jazz 3, wooden, plastic, bone, triangle shaped, heart shaped, oversized, etc. And let me tell you, they DO make a big difference in your sound. But you can get ANY sound from ANY pick, it's a matter of touch and technique. Just choose the one that you feel comfortable with...
