Wasn't sure which forum to put this in, so it landed here....

Does anyone have any advice/experience on in-the-case humidifiers?

In a previous thread, I mentioned that my guitars were showing signs of being too dry despite using the small sound-hole humidifier.

Since that post, I've purchased a Hygrometer to measure the actual humidity. (only $7 on eBay, including shipping, and it's a nice, big digital readout that also has temp, time and alarm. A great deal :) )

After a week or so of measurement, what I've found is:

1. The average humidity in the room where my guitars are, and presumably my entire home, is 27-30%. And, I anticipate that going lower as we get into winter.

2. Inside a guitar case sealed for 1.5 days with a guitar, the sound hole humidifier, and a homemade case humidifier (a kitchen sponge in an open baggie) the humidity was measured at 41% when I finally opened it. Better, but still not optimal.

I've actually noticed improvement in the classical by keeping it sealed in for a few days with the dual sponges. The frets aren't out as much.

Now, I want to buy some better in-the-case humidifiers to use. I am trying to decide between this one, which is clay, less expensive, and in the info says it only has to be refilled 2x a month (we'll see) which I like. :

Or this one. Which is significantly more expensive, but purports to provide 50% more moisture, and be more effective:

Does anyone have any insight/experience on these products?? Or any others that you've used?? I'm leaning toward the Herco just because of price, but don't want to get one that won't be effective enough.

Thanks!
