I have the Neil Young & Crazy Horse live in San Francisco, 22 October 1978 at Cow Palace dvd and he opens solo with his 12 string and harmonica(s) for some great songs, then switches to the 6 string acoustic to play "Hey Hey My My..." a solo performance which blows me away...as far as I can see he is in full strum through the entire song but really thumps out the lead notes between strums, sounding as if its 2 guitars. The sound is amazing.

Does anyone have any insight to how he does this and any techniques that I can practice? (my thought was that he is either palm muting right hand or finger muting left hand the chord strings and only hitting the lead notes, but when i try this its no where near as clean a sound).

Thanks!
