You could start with brands likely to have stuff in the price range, then google reviews on them. Epiphone and Takamine both should have some in the range.
Some other folks might be able to give you recommendations, but you should still go thru the review process anyway.
If you can find one you can purchase at a music store (and in TO you should have lots!), you can try before you buy.
How I do things like this when I totally don't know, is start with Musician's Friend. They have practically everything, with specs and reviews right on site.
Look at everything in your price range. Eliminate ones that you don't like the look of, don't like the colour, aren't full size, don't have a cut away, etc, etc, what ever your preferences are. Once you have a short list, start expanding your reviews to other sources (like Harmony Central and the one Carmine mentioned).
End up with the top 3 you like, then head to the guitar store to check them out.
Acoustics sound dramatically different from one another depending on construction. Way more wood-dependent than electrics, so you really want to hear what you are buying before you do it.
I did a quick forum search on "buying acoustic" (try searching some other keywords) and found this thead where I made similar recommendations to using review sources :) Anyway, the gitfiddle sarcazmo was considering was a pretty good looker.

...so ever since then, I always hang on to the buckle.
