To get your guitar in tune there is a very easy method that you can use. This is called tuning using intervals, or relative tuning. Relative tuning is a method of tuning the guitar to itself and is a handy thing to know as it becomes useful when you have a couple of strings out of tune and you don't have your guitar tuner on you.

In this lesson video we are going to have a look at the steps that you can take in order to get your guitar in tune. In total there are 5 steps.

Getting your guitar in tune (Video lesson)

Basically, how relative tuning works is you recreate the note that a string needs to sound like on another string (a reference note). You then use this note to get the string in tune.

Also if you want to try a different tuning check out some easy open guitar tunings. Open guitar tunings are where the strings are tuned to a chord and this therefore makes them especially good for instrumentals.
