I just got an SG a few months ago and they are very awesome. It is really versitile. I can play just about any style on it and it is awesome for fast playing rock, and metal too.

The neck is slim and fast and the action is smooth and quick.

Im not too sure about the cheaper Epiphone ones, but you can get the "faded" SG from Gibson for about 700. I played on and the feel was very simular to my much more expensive one.

It should certainly be one to put on your try it out list!
