I think that open tunings are here so that they make your life easier, or what you play is only playable in this tuning (like slide...). As for clasically inspired rock, grab a tab by Yngwie malmsteem, take away 2 from the 6 string's tab, and play what you are told. I do not think there's a tuning for that particular style. Or maybe I didn't get your question...
