The way I learned chords was to go out and get one of those music books like "Great Rock Songs of the 70's" (showing my age there). They had the music staves & the words and above that were little grids with dots where your fingers go to show how to make the chords.

I found it cool, because I'd just learn songs I liked, and that were simple enough, and that I already knew (except the chords of course). The move on to another song with some new chords, etc.

Whatever you do, keep at it, 'cause it all comes together. :) I was starting on the pentatonic scales today and bitching and cursing and moaning, but when I actually sat down and work thru them a bit, suddenly the whole fretboard was connected! Very happy day!
...so ever since then, I always hang on to the buckle.
