It's 1983~1984, not sure which I just know I was a junior in high school. Van Halen is on top of the world. School derides to have an air band competition. So friends and I decide to to Van Halen's Mean Street. I'm Eddie Van Halen (playing a gutted out flying V).
We practice for a week or so. Have the routine down. The day comes. If you know the song, you know that Eddie does a small little solo at the beginning. So, was supposed to run out into the middle of the auditorium and slide on my knees. Ran out, but didin't slide. Stuck and face planted into the floor.
To add insult to injury, there was a part in our routine where my friend who was playing David Lee Roth, was to duck and i was to swing my leg over his head. Didn't happen that way live. The live version went like this. He ducks, my leg swings around hits him in the head, his blind wig gets twisted around his head and can't see. Wonders around trying to straighten it out.
Ah, memories.
