I’m in the process of re-teaching myself while teaching my 3 young daughters guitar (and Drums). I had years of lessons years ago. The basics courses have been very educational and fun for the girls and I’m re-learning some good habits… BTW the girls are 8 and 10 and having a blast learning guitar. I have seen my youngest learn more over the past couple months than the prior 2 years with an instructor and some stinking Mall Music song instruction book and instructor that only follows the Music chains path. The more frustrated I became with the ‘Shopping Mall – Chain Music store’ approach, the more I researched another approach on-line, which is when I found GuitarTricks.com. At that point, my daughter talked me back into playing and we are just having a blast on GuitarTricks.com. I cannot thank everyone involved with Guitar Tricks enough for providing this resource, your hard work is reaping rewards in this house! The 7 year old is our drummer, which I’m still looking for a resource to teach her – I’m not a drummer.

Anyway I’m looking for suggestions of songs that are semi-easy, fun to play, and recognizable. Ideally they involve Guitar Rhythm, Lead and a Drum beat. Blues, Folk, and Country are the music genres of interest. But Rock works too. An example that has been too much fun is Queen’s ‘We will Rock you’, not the ending solo – not at that level yet. A song that everyone can fairly easily learn their part and play together. Of course we are running through Christmas songs right now, but I’m looking past the holiday season for songs to play and enjoy. Another really fun song (more of a lead lick) that is loads of fun is the guitar lead parts of ‘Faith Noel’ by Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Nothing like a young kids face light up when they conquer a lick like that – also makes the relatives light up while hearing her play on a Pink Flower Daisy Rock Electric, but that is another story.

For some reason I keep digging into songs where the lead require fast playing, not too easy for me at this point nor the girls. So any suggestions out there? Artist and Song Titles will do - I’ll do the research with Guitar-Pro to get the tab.
