I have always been confused as to what type of effects pedal to invest in so that I can switch to custom effects easily during a live show, in the same manner that Matt Bellamy does during a concert.

I have a distorton and a delay pedal, but I am wondering if it makes more sense to sell them and buy a multieffects pedal. Are multieffects the only way to switch to a new programmed effects in one tap?
