I would love to own an EJ-160E guitar after playing one a couple of months ago right out of the box from the factory.
The finish on these guitars is excellent. No blemishes, scratches, or bubbles and all the coats were applied evenly from the headstock to the tail. I really like the natural satin gloss in cherry sunburst. You can tell that the build quality is superior and will last a lifetime.
The tuners are old-school, accurate, and definitely reflect the vintage design.
Don't be fooled by comments you read about setup, action, and intonation. All guitars should be set up according to the string gauge you use. I was very surprised that out of the box the one I played required no initial setup. There were no buzzes on any string/fret, the intonation was great, and the action great for very slinky and smooth fretting.
The SOUND on this guitar is amazing. Acoustically it has an even tone across the strings and the volume you can get without amplification rivals a J200. Again, this reflects the quality of factory build. Let's put it this way, I played with banjo, mandolin, and fiddle and the EJ-160E (unplugged) could be heard well by everyone. This guitar has punch!
The single humbucker is mounted at the end of the fretboard just above the sound hole. It is not an acoustic pickup and was never designed to produce an acoustic sound. I play slide guitar too and I highly recommend this guitar plugged in with a Slide Guitar Extension Nut ($4). What a sound!
With/without an amp, this guitar has the tone, clarity and price that every guitarist interested in superior sound will appreciate.
