i play the into of voodoo chile (S.L.) by hendix to shut up an audience that is talking before we start proper. the bassest and the drummer also have a bit of a thrash around but we only play it for a minute of so, as soon as that Em riff starts the audience soon stops talking. its also a good warm up before we start to play properly

good one!! It seems that riff was invented to advertise the use of a wah wah pedal!!

the best think about that riff its its ability to be improvised around. i could easyly sit down and bash out loads of different variations of that basic riff, and realy the whole song (the little i can play!). seriously, try playing the intro riff on a 12-string using tremolo, flemenco picking before moving to a Em-G root chord sequence, accompanyed only by percusion. it is amazing how versitile the riff is

I play some sweet shredding stuff (a'la Alexi Laiho) and then I do 6 string sweeps with taps attached and umm.. Yes, and after that a Petrucci run (chromatic) and then a couple of stringskips and finally one 5 string sweep only downwards and start tapping going up and I bend the 22th fret and start vibrating it.. It sounds pretty kewl..
