I agree with the other poster there, take the guitar to your local guitar shop (the small Mom and Pop shop not the big box corporate franchises) and tell them you are a beginner and need to know if your guitar is alright or if it needs work. Have them restring it for you WHILE YOU WATCH you need to learn to do this for yourself. Buy yourself an inexpensive electronic tuner and have them show you how to use it. Also buy your self a chord chart go home and learn to form chords (I started with E A D) This is the key of A if you know these three chords then you can play a song.

I wish to encourage you to learn to play, I started about 26 years ago and I have never regretted it. Your guitar is a source of companionship, entertainment, and creative outlet.

One last thing, the only dumb question is the one you were too afraid to ask!
