Hi...

It really depends on what kind of person you are. If you can motivate yourself to learn, and can discipline yourself to go through the lessons at a pace that works for you, this site will take you a long way. Many people are self-taught... using whatever materials come to hand. That used to mean books and records.... now it's the internet with video and mp3.

I teach privately as well, and although some of my students could probably take themselves down the road with the help of this site, others might struggle. I had classical lessons from a young age, so that has an impact on my answer I guess.

In short, you'll know if and when you need lessons face to face with a tutor... and only you can answer the question... The only other advice I'll offer is not to skip over the music theory. Although it may seem a little dry now, it'll be very useful later... :)
