As the name says, artificial harmonics are created by picking while touching an "harmonic knot" with the flesh of your thumb.
Try experimenting various spots to pick while you fret the same note, it's an effect used by lots of guitarists, you can find as much as seven harmonic knots (the most famous being at the half of the vibrating string , the one which creates a note an octave higher)
