Never played guitar before, but I'm positive that I want to learn. My budget is around $600. I've looked at both of these guitars in person and talked with a few people about them. A lot of the guitarists I've talked to suggest Taylor for its playability, but some are die-hard Martin fans. The Martin certainly has a heavier bass than the Taylor, but I'm not sure if I want that or not. I'd like to play blues, some rock, and definately some folk. I've heard that Martins are great for blues and folk due to their nice bass, but the DX1 is not all wood and the Taylor is. It seems that since I am just beginning either guitar would probably be a good choice, but I was wondering if the all wood vs. wood top laminate back and sides was a significant difference at this level of guitar. I'd like the guitar I buy to be one that will keep well and play for years to come. Any advice?
