-Learn all the major and minor chords.
-Learn the Major Scale and the Minor Scale in all keys.
-Learn all the useful techniques. I.e. Alternate Picking, Bends, Hammer On, Pull Off, Trills, Slides, Tapping, Sweeping. ( You don’t - have to wait until you play like a guitar god. Just make sure you understand the mechanics of those techniques. )

Then you can get a teacher who can explain to you: Chord Structure, Scales Structure, Chord-Scale relations, Modes, Extended Chords, Alterations of chords, etc.
Everything is gonna be easier to understand if you already know those basic things.
