Soloing = Scales.
Learn your Major scales all over your guitar then go from there.. all scales are based on the Major scales.. Major scales are akin to Do-Re-Mi-Fa-So-La-Ti-Do... The most used scale, in rock and blues, is the pentatonic minor scale.. which actually uses the SAME notes as the relative Major scale, just not all of them and also does not start on the same root note... So the Pentatonic Minor would be like La-Ti-Do-Re-Mi-Fa-So-La subtracting 2 of the notes to form a 5-note scale.. ie. penta meaning five, and tonic meaning tone.. so 5 tone (or note) scale. If my memory serves me correctly, it is the 2nd and 6th tone that is removed from the minor scale to create the pentatonic minor. So you'd end up with La-Do-Re-Mi-So and La again..
anyway.. the point of all this is that you need to really learn your scales, as they relate to the guitar, properly if you want to make up solos yourself.. or you can do it the hard way and spend years working it all out by trial and error..
