Wow. Very, very interesting piece. A little different than what you had been working on recently. I like it. Creepy as all get out but poignant. Now, this may be a mis-interpretation of the story but it feels to me if this is the inner-fantasy-coping mechanism of a young man who was the victim of repeated abuses as a child/pre-teen. As if this is his life line that he's gripping while free floating in a sea of madness than threatens to drown him.
He's trying to re-build himself, or at least the image he has of himself, and escape what's going on in his head. I don't know if I would change anything. Maybe expand the thoughts of his initial 'experiement'. Just a thought.
