I don't know about BC Rich guitars (or anything else with a weird shape)...
Like Grambo said, make sure you try before you buy. I can't see how some of the shapes can possibly be usable sitting down. The absence of fret markers isn't a big deal in my opinion.... you get used to it. I've got guitars with none, with vines, with dots, shark teeth and all sorts. It takes a minute to adjust, but then it's easy.
I just don't know whether the shape of the guitars (as cool as you might think they are) is really helpful to advancing as a player. I guess try before you buy is the only answer.
I think BC Rich guitars are purchased for the look rather than the feel... and I can't see that being a good thing.
I'd go with Dean - some of their guitars are 'mean' enough to be metal whilst being traditional enough to be familiar and playable.... Also bear in mind you'll look stupid playing jazz on a BC Rich doomslayerhellraiserdeathdagger, but you wouldn't look stupid playing metal on a les paul / strat / whatever.
I have a bias, but I think Ibanez do a decent line in versatile guitars that look 'rock'.
