Yeah, basically it seems the best fix for any problems seems to be going to the Flash website and getting the latest version of Flash.
Then removing any old versions, and deleting the cache of your browser and restarting.

Then of course there's the obvious stuff like 'is your computer turned up... do you have a soundcard...are your speakers plugged in... is the ouput volume in your control panel turned up... etc..
