If you're not going to use korina, I strongly recommend making an all-maple neck-through guitar with a rosewood fret-board. I have an Odyssey Custom V made by Atilla Balogh in the late 70's. It looks like a square-shouldered '57 Gibson V, except that it doesn't have most of the face covered by that clunky pickguard. And it sounds so much better than any of the Gibsons or Epiphone V's that I've tried out.
If you're only going to copy a standard design, why bother doing a custom?
