I'd suggest an atonal exercise such as the one below to practice the technique. You need to mute with both hands, and make sure the notes don't ring into each other. Start slow and get faster. An exercise like this should help you build the technique before you move on to different arpeggio shapes:

e-1-------4-2-------5---etc
b--2-----3---3-----4----etc
g---3---2-----4---3-----etc
d----4-1-------5-2------etc

If you already know how to sweep, try all the CAGED arpeggio shapes for major & minor, plus sevenths and ninths. You can extend apeggios to 3 octave, so try that with slides and taps as well...

Just pick an arpeggio, and sweep it!
