It's pretty simple really... Hold the pick whichever way feels most comfortable to you... Music, especially playing guitar... isn't (shouldn't) be about the proper way to do things... I've never really went out of my way to do things the way everyone else does things... Hold the pick however it feels comfortable... and believe it or not... once you start getting better at guitar... and keep practicing... you'll start holding the pick the way that it's "suppose" held. Just do whatever's comfortbal for you though.
