It's not actually that women have lower insurance because it's been 'proven' that they have fewer accident. Women actually have more accidents than men, but the thing that changes the insurance premiums is the cost of the claims.

(Generalising) Women have been shown to have more minor accidents, but when a man crashes it's more likely the car will be written off. This is down to the strengths and weaknesses of each gender. for example, women in general have less spatial awareness than men, so they bump things when parking etc. Men generally like to drive faster, so when they hit something it's a hell of a repair bill. generalising as I say.... some women can park and some men don't speed...

I got annoyed recently - my missus passed her driving test after 6 years of lessons and failed tests, and I've got 5 years no claims discount. The day she passed her test I added her to the insurance and it brought the premium down by £50! You telling me a woman with no driving experience is less of a risk than a guy who has had a license for 10 years, and never made a claim since owning his own cars?

As an answer, my insurance company wouldn't protect my no claims discount and in the 3 months that followed my no claims got whittled down to zero - all her. She even crashed the courtesy car they gave her from when she crashed hers the week before.... MAN!!! Less of a risk my ass!

The only other thing I'd like to say on the subject is that I find 'women only' insurers on thin ice. I suspect that if there were a 'men only' insurer it would be deemed sexist and closed down... double standards. Not sure...
