You say it sounds tinny even before you plug it in? In that case it's not the electronics. How's the action? Sometimes if the action is low you get not so much a fret buzz, but more of a metallic overtone to the notes. The heat could certainly get to the action and neck relief.

The heat shouldn't make a guitar sound tinny. I've played in some pretty hot countries and never had that problem.
