I still wonder how my lappy has 24g's and your desktop only has 6. I think its about time to give your computer a virus and tell your mom you need a new computer.

i'd need to tell my dad, and my dad knows 10 times more about computers than i, and i know much about computers. so if i tell him i got a virus on it, he'll say what's to stop me from getting a virus on an even better computer?

If you have Virus protection program, then disable it and then go for the virus. Then tell your dad your computer wasn't running right with the protection on and that with the new computer, there wont be any problems.

yea 2 augusts ago i was named my school county's 'most responsible student' (i really was. you'd be surprised how much i've changed) so this guy gave me a $500 savings bond and one day he came to my school to have lunch with me, and i told him i was into science and technology, and my dad was there too. He asked me if I had a computer (back then I didn't) and I was about to say no because I knew he was gonna get me a brand new one, then my dad cut in and said "i'm going to get him one" and this is what I get. :( :(

sorry for the double post but this is completely different and i don't wanna clutter.

I'm not supposed to have a virus protection program cause my dad thinks windows xp is god and it's gonna protect itself from everything. maybe thatll help.. but what about all this stuff I have on it? where will I put them? plus my dad just spent a bunch of cash repainting the house and adding an extension so i don't even know if he has any cash left for a new computer.

i have a gut feeling that he'll just accuse you of downloading something that caused the virus...there are sneaky viruses that go undetected...

A s*** load of cd-r's :D . Or you can just get a few cd-rw's and you can erase the info after you transfer and go back for other stuff.

You can make a disk image of all the important stuff on your hard drive, get a new machine, create a home LAN, and transfer it all that way.... Or, you can get a new machine, take out the hard drive from your old machine, and get a device that will let you transfer (via firewire or USB) from your old HD to your new computer.

You can do that as well provided there's a second spot in your new machine. Remember to change the pin configuration on the second hard drive from master to slave. You should be able to find diagrams online. Afterwards, go in to CMOS and autodetect (Windows may be able to do this for you booting up normally).
