Yep, I know the feeling. My mom was hesitant of buying even a starter guitar for me when I was 13...she thought I would just give up. So almost two years go by before my aunt kindly donated her old acoustic ( & I still have it).
And the premise that if you don't "make it" in your musical career then your money will be wasted is just nonsense.
