I'm not saying at all that you suck. You're preaching to me about not taking things serious, meanwhile you never ever make an effort at learning bass. And when I say "learning bass," I don't mean looking up tabs for songs you like. You do that. I mean actually learning it. You play guitar, why don't you record some chords and make up some bass fills over the playback? Playing the root note of a chord in quarter notes is not good bass-ery.

True enough. Although I do play eighth notes as well. :p Consider however that I'm supposedly the singer of this band, making complicated bass kind of less reasonable.
You go outside and practice screaming. We'll play music while you're gone.

Granted. That's why I sing sometimes. When I sing, make the bass cool. When you sing, I'll try to make the guitar cool.

Ah, compromise.

Then how come so many Satriani songs feature that very type of bass line?

Anyway, it seems as though neither one of you have put as much thought into the business as you'd think. Making it in the world of music is brutally hard and sometimes it's just not fun. People that don't know as much as they can about the business mostly rely on luck for hitting it big, but people that don't take it seriously aren't in any better of a situation. What makes a musician good is purely by opinion, but one thing that matters most is the dedication has to be there for everyone and communication amongst the band is crucial. This kind of communication is rigamorale bull****. It's important to keep the fun there, but you do still have to think in business perspective if you want to make it somewhere with it. Your bandmates aren't just other people you know. They're not just your friends. They're also your co-workers and proper, professional communication is a very key part to having a successful band. There's a lot of compromise involved and a lot of sacrifices that everyone has to make both as a band and as individuals. The only question after that is just how much are you willing to sacrifice?

If I didn't want this thread to die, you can bet I would have something to say about that.

True - although, the chances that our good friend acapella is a bass-wielding God on Earth of the same calibre as Les Claypool are fairly slim. Then again, I've never heard acapella playing bass, so I can't say for sure... :D

Who said I was "crap on bass"? If one anonymous person who tried in vain to rep me has anything to say about it, I "know my ****". I'm no bass-wielding God on earth, that's for sure, but nobody said I was crap.

Although the original phrasing of the statement is easy to interpret as you have, I'm willing to assume that he just meant to say that everyone starts in the same place.
