I have been using Acoustica'a Mixcraft ($39) and their drum program Beatcraft for a long time.

Don't laugh at the price, this is some powerfull recording software.
This is not a DAW, digital audio workstaion type program, it is a very simple, easy to use, very high quality recording program, but it does have VST integration.

Acoustica is a very small company that has about 10 or 15 excellent pieces of Audio software.

Here's the link to Acoustica's Mixcraft.

Here's links to two pages of stuff I have recorded with Mixcraft and Beatcraft.
