Well, first, don't ever use WD-40 for something unless you want to destroy it.

Second, if you are inclined at all take the wah apart..clean the gear and get some thin grease to put around it.

Third, since this is an "old" wah, some of the contacts are most likely dirty so get in there and clean them up.
