Perhaps the original statement would've been best kept as a metaphorical statement. If someone is born incapable of talking then they're unable to receive everything that is possible in life. However, that doesn't mean you haven't lived. What means you've lived is what you've gotten out of life for yourself.

The initial interpretation I'd gotten out of it is that we're all alive and we all go through specific things that are natural in life. Happiness, sadness, and the rest of the human emotions are all things that we feel in the course of life. How we show them (crying, screaming, singing, whatever) is just determined by who the person is. Just because you can't cry doesn't mean you can't feel sad.

Whatever you do, don't eat limes. A friend of mine ate a lime once and BAM!! Two years later. Herpes.
