I grew up decently close to the southside of Chicago... and even closer to the once revered "Murder Capital of the United States" Gary, Indiana... The only time I've ever heard the word "Gat" is in rap songs... and/or right before I heard ambulances and cop car sirens.... But it's pretty cool...

Welcome to the boards... I hang out in the Tech and Gear sections mostly... So if you need any help with any of that just holler.

Hello to all!
New to this. . . I'm an old guy who used to play coffee houses in the 60's. Put my axe away for 40 years or so and just recently picked it up again. I don't believe I've ever been an asshole to anyone and I'm not planning on becoming one now.
After re-discovering the almost magical calming powers of the guitar (no matter how rusty I've become) its like having an old friend come home.
My passion is the blues. SRV has to be my favorite but also love Muddy, Hooker, Lightnin' Hopkins, and of course Robert Johnson.
Best wishes to all my fellow guitar addicts!
Dan

I'm actually from a rural town outside of the suburbs of Chicago... but I use to spend a lot of time up there. I've only been to Gary, IN maybe twice... both times were on accident too... we got lost... It's the birthplace of Michael Jackson... if that tells you anything at all about it......... It use to be called the Murder Capital of the US because it's murder rate per capita was higher than anywhere in the US... and it ranked in the top 10 in the world... So no, haha, I was not stuck in Gary, IN...... (which is also featured in the lyrics of a song in The Sound of Music)....... I was stuck in a far safer... more boring place called Rensselaer... until I moved to West Lafayette... Which are both much harder to pronounce than..... Gary.... in which I am NOT from!!!! hahaha.

Oh, yeah. Been there, done that. And went back for more.

I took a break for a few years when disco was polluting the airwaves and nobody was hiring live bands. When I started playing again, I felt a bit like Rip Van Winkle because all of my reference points were older than the guys I was jamming with. Go with it - its all good. :)

I was once joined there. I was horrified by the way they treat eachother there. Once apon a time i liked zakk wylde, and asked if the brewtality articles were anywhere on the web. The only reply I got was from member #6 of the atheists against God club (I know, a contridiction within itself) saying all you need for brewtality is a pair of fists and to listen to cannibal corpse as if it was the bible. Needless to say, I haven't stopped in since.

Michael Jackson was also in Gary once...that just makes my homosexual joke (that no one seemed to find amusing...or to catch) even funnier.

George should be some district of Gary. Then you could say George is in Gary.

There really is a small town close to my hometown named Laura........ and ironically my last girlfriends name was Laura...... I just now noticed that... which makes the joke that much more funny to me...
