I recently contacted Peavey to find out what is on this guitar. (Peavey Raptor Plus) It has 3 single coils (strat style body). I had talked to my wife about getting a new guitar. Well she decided to surprise me for Christmas a few years ago and bought this guitar. I want to keep it so I don't hurt her feelings but I need better sound.
My ultimate question is should I upgrade the pickups or just get another guitar? I am looking for a very nice tone. I play a lot with Eric Johnson's style and music. I've played for a few years but never really put a whole bunch of money in my gear. (I never really had it!)
At any rate, I didn't know if I should get something like the Fender Hot Noiseless pickups or a new guitar. The Peavey dude said, "The pickups are Peavey designed and the single coils are rated about 7k."
Do I just need to get a pickup with a higher resistance rating? Or does that (the 7k) just have to do with backfeed potential?
