I thought I’d resurrect this thread in light of recent events.

It started when CBC news pointed out that Winnipeg was colder than some part of Antarctica this morning, supposedly making it ‘the second-coldest place in the world.’ Later on, in the same news program, a ‘current weather’ display thing showed that a town called Geraldton in Ontario had a temperature a little bit lower than Winnipeg’s. My dad pointed this out.

Dad: Funny how they said we were second coldest, and now they’re showing two towns with lower temperatures.
Me: The first one was from this morning. This one is from right now.
Dad: Yeah, but it couldn’t possibly have dropped that much in the course of a day.
Me: What?! Why the hell not?
Dad: Because it’s up north, by Churchill. It’s gotta be colder.
Me: Uh, the first thing showed Churchill as being significantly warmer than Winnipeg.
Dad: Okay, but there’s a warm wind that blows right through Churchill.
Me: So? If Geraldton is right up by Churchill, wouldn’t the warm wind blow through there, too?
Dad: No. Because it goes like this [draws a giant U in the air with his arm, then cries out in pain due to his torn rotator cuff].
Me: So what’s to say there isn’t a similar wind that blows right through Geraldton?
Dad: There isn’t.
Me: Says who?
Dad: Me. I’ve been to Geraldton.
Me: Oh, well then. I guess you’re a qualified meteorologist.
Dad: About the same as you!
Me: Haha. Ok then, let’s assume what you’re saying is true. It’s still possible that Winnipeg was colder than Geraldton this morning.
Dad: Absolutely not.
Me: Oh? Why not?
Dad: Because if Winnipeg didn’t drop that much, neither would Geraldton. They would be proportionate to one another.
Me: F***, man.

:D ... nice

I like the fact that there was no forward thinking on the giant U vs rotator cuff move...

Yeah a wing is definatly an arm.

Even people who study weather don't know how it works but as you get older you feel you're supposed to know everything. ;)

1.- The lower body concept pretty much closes the subject bout it.

2.- By definition parents think they know the right answer.

So if we work on definitions on both subjects a wing is NOT a leg and parents will allways find a way to get into a nonsese argument (even if you agree with them).

So my suggestion would be... do the same thing both your wings and your parents... just enjoy them. :D
Power corrupts. Absolute power is kinda neat.

Don't get me wrong, I love getting into arguments like this with my dad. They make me feel like I'm some sort of genius who is just too smart to interact amicably with the rest of society.

Actually, I feel like that all the time, but the arguments give me a reason to.
