Sorry if I'm late on responding.
Guitar lessons around here on average are about $30/hour. (That's why I never took any.)

Now, acoustic is a smart place to start, but if as a result of not getting an electic, you won't play as much, get an electric. My parents begged me to get an acoustic. I was in grade 8, and that wasn't an option for me. I've never regretted getting the electic since, I haven't put it down. In fact, I never played an acoustic in my life until grade 9. I do, however play at least half an hour of acoustic alone every day. It's a beautiful sound and a great workout.

I learned from a 'how to play' book basic chords. I learned my favourite songs from online tabs, and now learn more each month in Guitar One magazine.
