Watch the sugars and the carbs. Don't cut them out completely though because then it becomes something you'll think about ALL THE TIME. Everything in moderation (with certain exceptions of course).
Hit the road three-four times a week. A three to four mile run a few times a week will do a lot for you. Quickly. Weight training is BIG too. Tell you one of the things I do is that for that rare hour or so when I'm just sitting in front of the TV (or the FAT BOX as I call it), do push-ups when the commericals come on. Do sit ups the next time the commercials pop up. The switch it to curls or dip (between chairs) or anything physical. Do them intensely for those three minutes and then rest. Use your imagination and you come up with a complete workout in the same space when you did nothing.
As far as appetite, pound a bottle of water before you eat a meal. Fills up your stomach and you won't be as tempted to eat just to eat.
You should always feel a little bit hungry when you step away from the table. If you're completely full, you've eaten too much.
Good luck.
And all this is brought to you by a guy who has lost twenty pounds or so doing the above. And I'm in my mid-40's. I don't have your metabolism anymore so I have to work twice as hard at it as you will.
Just make yourself some good habits and consider it a lifestyle change and you'll be fine.
