Hi everybody, I just registered at this message board. Lots of very interesting discussions! I have a question about an odd sized speaker cabinet that someone gave me. I don't know if it is meant to be for guitars even. The dimensions are approximately 40.5" height by 27.5" width by 12" depth. It has four openings for 12" speakers. The cabinet was unloaded except one blown 12" speaker that had the markings "12 VPGQ16A 67-7804" on it. That's it, no brand or anything else anywhere! That cabinet is very solidly built with plywood and it has a substantial amount of fiberglass insulation in it. Also, it is divided into two compartments, one for every two 12" speakers. It looks very old, and I was thinking about replacing the tolex and grill cloth, and loading it with four Celestions (maybe vintage 30s?). I have a Marshall JCM 900 100W hi gain head that I would like to use with it. I'm thinking that given the height of that cabinet it should have fantastic projection of sound, but I have no idea about how to select what speakers would even work with it given that it's not a "standard" size cabinet. I should mention that it has a closed back. I'd hate to spend money on speakers just to find out that all I can get out of that cabinet is a muddy sound. Any suggestions as to speaker selection or what (or if anything) can work would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
